Program areas at Friends and Neighbors of Pennsylvania

Friends & Neighbors' coordinated street outreach (cso) team served more than 700 individuals experiencing homelessness and/or housing insecurity in york county in 2022. On average, the team serves 14-20 Neighbors each day. Advocates go into the streets, under the bridges, and wherever they can find people in order to check on their safety and wellness, and to give them supplies, water, and resources. This direct support along with service coordination with collaborative partners helped some individuals transition to stable housing and/or employment.
In 2022, the b.e.a.s.t. Initiative continued its efforts to offer esports activities to youth in the city of york and the surrounding municipalities. Additional funding from the Pennsylvania commission on crime and delinquency (pccd) through york county enabled the purchase of several gaming consoles and computer systems in order to bring the community together through gaming. Youth engaged in the program were also exposed to education and career opportunities in the field of esports through partnerships with harrisburg university and various businesses.
The group violence intervention (gvi) strategies include proven approaches that reduce violence by groups in communities. In 2022, gvi, through funding from the Pennsylvania commission on crime and delinquency (pccd), added a second "credible messenger" in york. In addition, gvi support & outreach provided services to victims of, and individuals related to violent acts. Before the end of the year, Friends & Neighbors transferred its responsibilities for gvi to a capable partner in york county.
