Program areas at Foundations
Foundations is the fiscal sponsor to the campaign for grade level reading (cglr). Cglr conducts activities that align with the mission and purpose of the organization. Cglr seeks to disrupt generational poverty by mobilizing communities to find solutions for one of the major obstacles in the pathway out of poverty failure to read proficiently by the end of third grade. Since its launch in 2012, the glr communities network has grown to include more than 350 communities, representing 45 states, the district of columbia, puerto rico, the u.s. virgin islands and two canadian provinces sponsored by 5,200+ local organizations, institutions and agencies and supported by 500+ state and local funders, including 200+ united ways. The counties served by glr coalitions are home to 28.6 million children ages 09 years old, 63.7% of the total u.s. population in this age range. Within this group, the counties served by cglr communities house 10.4 million children in grades k3, or 70% of the u.s. total, including millions who are at risk of experiencing significant learning loss given the current reality of closures and crisis schooling.
