Program areas at Forensic Justice Project
The Forensic Justice Project helps attorneys in Oregon to understand and challenge faulty or misleading Forensic evidence, or develop helpful Forensic evidence, in criminal cases. During 2023, we provided direct representation, case support, or referrals in over 78 cases in Oregon. We also started a long-term Project working with academic partners to research the scientific validity of specific Forensic methods that have been known to result in wrongful convictions.
The Forensic Justice Project works to improve Oregon law through strategic litigation in select cases involving forensics.
The forensice Justice Project works to educate and train other lawyers to address forensics in criminal cases and to educate the courts on issues that relate to forensics. During 2023, we taught 13 seminar classes, as well as 1 four-session class that provided participants with in-depth training on litigating faulty opinions related to firearms indentification.
