Civic initiativethe Florida civics and debate initiative (fcdi) is made possible by a $5 million grant from the bernie marcus Foundation. The goal of the fcdi is to improve civic literacy skills in middle and high school grade students and prepare them via programs like speech and debate. The initiative is three-year, multi phase plan to ultimately incorporate civics programs in every Florida school district.
The Florida teacher of the year program celebrates the women and men who have dedicated their lives to educating future generations. Each year, Florida's school districts have the opportunity to recognize 74 teachers as district teachers of the year. These top educators areselected for many reasons including extraordinary student gains, community involvement, teacher leadership and instructional practices. Five district teachers of the year are named teacher of the year finalists and, from those, one statewide winner is selected as the christa maculiffe ambassador for Education.
