Program areas at Florida Dream Center
The adopt-a-block program reached out to multiple pockets of poverty within pinellas county in need of assistance. Over 4,200 volunteers donated 19,012 hours to aid communities, neighbors, and families every saturday. This aid included immediate needs such as food, clothing, and hygiene as well as case management, street clean-up, code violations, and lawn maintenance. A total of 90 tons of debris was removed from community streets, alleys and lots. Through this program 37 homes were revitalized, 67 alleys/lots were cleared and 6 code enforcement violations were rectified. Over 700 children participated in our tarpon springs and lealman adopt-a- claus festival, receiving gifts from santa and 1,300 thanksgiving and christmas turkeys were delivered to residents. The resident advocacy program assisted 3,739 pinellas county residents with human services, including budgeting, housing, identification, mail retrieval, government applications, mental/health referrals, etc. The advocacy program also served 4,731 emergency walk-in clients with immediate needs and referrals. The mobile food bank collected 1,385,483 pounds of food set to be discarded by local food retailers. This food, as well as food donated from food drives and private donors, resulted in a total of 1,626,317 pounds of food (1,355,264 meals) being distributed to individuals and families facing hunger daily. This distribution included direct clientele as well as smaller pantries and churches in need of support. The work readiness training program provides an accredited post-secondary curriculum supported by the national Center for construction education and research. Through this curriculum 67 core construction and carpentry level 1 certificate and 45 forklift operator's licenses were awarded. 125 clients were helped with career services and 38 were placed in gainful employment.
