Program areas at Fishernightingale Houses
The fisher Houses provide support, compassionate care, and lodging for patients and their families receiving treatment at the wright-patterson air force base medical center and the dayton va medical center. We are dedicated to providing an opportunity for military and veteran families to stay together and support each other when a loved one is undergoing medical treatment. The fisher Houses provide physical and emotional support to our servicemen and servicewomen, veterans and their families.to date, the Houses have serviced nearly twenty-five thousand families from all branches of the military, from stateside and overseas, active duty, retired, guard, reserve and veterans.the average length of stay is 4 days. Some guests stay only for a day or two while others stay for several months or more while receiving medical treatment at the wright-patterson air force base and dayton va medical centers.guests stay in the fisher Houses at no expense; the fnhi raises money to reimburse the air force and the department of veterans affairs for operational support expenses. Most guests come from a seven state area (Ohio, Kentucky, west Virginia, Michigan, Indiana, Illinois and Wisconsin). However, there have been guests from all over the world staying at the fisher Houses as the wpmc is the second largest medical center in the air force and the largest military medical center in the midwest. The dayton vamc fisher house supports guests primarily from 18 counties (seventeen in Ohio and one in Indiana). However, guests are referred from other va treatment facilities throughout the state of Ohio.
