Program areas at First Generation College Bound
FGCBs signature College Access Program focuses on identifying best fit and affordable based on each students academic profile and their familys financial profile. During the 2023-2024 academic year, college access services were provided to 249 seniors, 145 juniors, and 55 sophomores. The College Access Program expanded into two new high schools recruiting and serving the seniors at the International High School of Langley Park and Bladensburg High School in Prince Georges County. FGCB surpassed our goal of working with 240 seniors and 120 juniors. Coaches will continue to recruit sophomores until our recruitment goal is met.
The MD Alliance for College Affordability and Equity program is a coalition of non profit organizations that assist students from low income and marginalized families pursuing the promise of higher education. In fy24, we entered into a contract with a legislative consulting firm tasked with monitoring legislative activity associated with and influencing actions that may be taken with respect to State need-based financial aid programs.
Forty-two students enrolled in Homework Club at the Kimberly Gardens Community. This was an increase of 9 students from the previous year and 12 students over our targeted recruitment goal. This was also our largest group of homework club students yet. FGCB will be increasing the recruitment goal for the next academic year. Students attended weekly homework club help sessions, received monthly counseling from the homework club teacher and coordinator, participated in academic achievement recognition events, a holiday celebration, an end of the year celebration, and several field trips. 94% of students maintained an A Work Habits grade at the beginning of the year, compared to 83% of the students maintaining an A Work Habits grade.
