General membership activities: the Federal City Council was established in 1954 to focus the creativity, talent and resources of the district of columbia's top business, education and philanthropic leaders on major challenges and opportunities facing the City. The Council is a nonpartisan organization whose 250 members work with the district and Federal governments to devise and implement solutions to important community problems.
Fiscal stability and economic development: Federal City Council members work cooperatively to ensure the long-term competitiveness and resiliency of the district's economy. These activities include promoting a fair and equitable tax system, advancing policies that encourage economic growth and the creation of job opportunities, and supporting efforts to incrase the supply of affordable housing.
Education: the Federal City Council serves as a trusted partner for educational improvement in the district of columbia. Working closely with local and Federal stakeholders, the Council promotes efforts to create an educational system in which all students can graduate from high school and be well prepared for college, career and life.
Transportation and infrastructure: the Federal City Council undertakes activities to encourage regional transportation planning and cooperation, advance innovative methods for financing critical infrastructure improvements, and promote efforts to improve the safety and reliability of the region's mass transit system.
