Families for Depression Awareness educates families on recognizing depression and bipolar disorder in loved ones and intervening to get mental health care. The ultimate goals are to unite families in addressing mood disorders and prevent suicides. In 2020, the organization trained 3,200 individuals through webinars and virtual workshops on adult and youth mental health, including national webinars on caregiving for an adult with depression from a distance, teen depression, and substance misuse.

Program areas at Families for Depression Awareness

Major accomplishments in 2020: -trained 3,200 individuals through our webinars and virtual workshops on adult and youth mental health, including national webinars on caregiving for an adult with Depression from a distance; teen Depression and substance misuse; and non-suicidal self-injury among teens. -distributed 4,470 print and digital brochures, fact sheets, guides, and resource cards to help people understand about topics such as mood disorders, suicide prevention, health insurance, and teen mental health and wellness. -created and launched an online stress assessment for family caregivers, steering them to appropriate resources and strategies based on their stress levels. -developed and videotaped a series on the stages of change to help caregivers better understand how to interact with their loved ones experiencing Depression, reduce frustration, and increase empathy.
