Program areas at Escape Artists
In 2023 Escape Artists Foundation published 218 podcast episodes. We published our 3000th story since our founding in 2005. Our podcasts received significant recognition from our industry including: finalist for World Science Fiction Society Hugo Best Semiprozine (PodCastle & Escape Pod), shortlisted for IGNYTE Awards' Best Podcast (PodCastle & PseudoPod), shortlisted for British Fantasy Awards' Best Audio Fiction (PseudoPod).
Several of our stories were finalists or won awards from leading institutions including: Utopia Awards, British Science Fiction Assc., New England Science Fiction Assc., World Fantasy Awards, Science Fiction & Fantasy Writers Assc. Nebula Awards, Bram Stoker Awards, Washington Science Fiction Assc., and Canberra Speculative Fiction Guild Aurealis Awards. For the first time, two of our short stories were reprinted in 'Best of' anthologies: 'The CRISPR Cookbook: A Guide to Biohacking Your Own Abortion in a Post-Roe World' by MKRNYILGLD (in 'Best American Science Fiction & Fantasy') and '-Like Stars Daring To Shine' by Somto Ihezue ('Year's Best African Speculative Fiction').
Our fantasy fiction podcast PodCastle celebrated its 15th anniversary with a series featuring interviews from all past editors, stories performed by full casts, & by publishing our 800th story ('D.I.Y.' by John Wiswell, a Hugo, Locus & Nebula finalist). PodCastle was a finalist or shortlisted for: 2023 World Science Fiction Society Hugo Awards' Best Semiprozine, 2023 IGNYTE Awards' Best Podcast, and 2023 British Fantasy Award for Best Audio Work. In 2023 PodCastle also published several award-winning stories, including 'The Morning House' by Kate Heartfield (World Fantasy Award finalist) and '(emet)' by Lauren Ring (2022 World Fantasy Award winner for Short Fiction).
