EJCs Employment Justice representation of low-income working people has been quite successful in 2023, we recovered a total of $1,016,644 in employment judgments and settlements. This includes $694,974 in unpaid wages and damages recovered by clients who suffered unpaid wages, employment discrimination, workplace sexual assault, labor trafficking, and other employment violations. EJC also recovered from employer/defendants in these cases $321,671 in attorney fees which are critical to sustaining our ongoing legal aid operations. Most importantly our clients have been able to vindicate their dignity by standing up against injustice, enforcing rights that benefit all workers, and changing employers exploitative practices.
Every year, the EJC also helps strengthen the legal profession by cultivating a new generation of public service lawyers through the EJCs Transnational Worker Rights Clinic at the University of Texas Law School.
A uniquely specialized aspect of EJCs employment rights legal assistance consists of its Legal Aid for Survivors of Sexual Assault. In 2023, EJC continued to help survivors combat sexual assault and sexual harassment in the workplace, obtaining monetary and other legal remedies for victims and providing economic stability vital to their recovery.
