Program areas at Education Alliance of Washoe County
Partners in Education program engages business and the community to establish school partnerships and advocate for resources with a goal of at least one partner per school who provides volunteer time and expertise, financial, and/or in-kind support.teachers' warehouse provides a way for people in the community to donate items to a warehouse. The teachers can pick up any items they may need for their classroom without cost to enhance classroom learning.
The healing through health initiative in fall 2020 expanded our existing program, kids in motion, by funding mental health resources as well as physical and nutrition Education resources. In the fall of 2021, thousands of wcsd students returned to the classroom for the first time in a year and a half and feedback from wcsd counseling, school principals, and the social emotional learning (sel) department revealed students needed critical help in three areas: mental/social and emotional health; physical wellness; and nutrition Education. Healing through health supported students in response to the universally shared experience of covid-19 by filling a school funding gap to help students recover from the effects of inactivity and isolation.
The Education Alliance board, in collaboration with the Washoe County school district and educators, volunteers, business representatives, community and government leaders, raises funding for schools to help wcsd students succeed. Funding is raised through events, grants, corporate and individual fundraising.
