Program areas at East Side Neighborhood Development Company

Housing Development esndc's housing committee met with several housing developers in 2022 who are planning or considering Development of affordable housing on the East Side of st paul. The committee meets once a month and reports back to the board of directors. Accomplishments for lead-safe mn program include 47 educational sessions and community events to inform parents, children and others about the dangers of lead based paint and other household hazards. We conducted 64 in-home visits & assessments, tested 164 children and 30 pregnant mothers for elevated blood lead levels (ebls). We referred 23 households to ramsey county environmental health for window replacements and completed 20 swab clean-up in homes to make them safer for children.
Community engagement - esndc's engegement work is centered around bringing diverse members of our community into the decisionmaking process to address Neighborhood issues, plan for the future and secure resources for community and economic Development initiatives. Whether they are businesspeople, residents, families and children, we utilize targeted approches such as public meetings, social media, focus group discussions, networking events, and oneonone conversations to reach a broad spectrum of people in the community. This approach has not only helped to inform, define and create esndc programs, but engagement serves to build community capacity and foster local leadership. In 2022 we formed the East Side black business network and established the esred steering committee to help shape decisions around real estate redevelopment priorities in our neighborhoods.
Commercial Development in 2022 the business investment fund (bif) program invested federal hud resources into eight commercial improvement construction projects. Eighteen new jobs were created and eightythree jobs were retained as a result of these projects. We launched a working capital loan program for bipoc business. Esndc partnered asandc for technical assistance and business coaching for underserved populations. Esndc provided technical assistance for the East metro main street economic revitalization program in partnership with the saint paul and Minnesota foundation and the mn department of employment and economic Development to rehabilitate 9 substantial commercial Development redevelopment projects. Esndc initiated the East Side real estate Development strategy to develop a master plan for the payne phalen and dayton's bluff Neighborhood.
