Description
The DSP is a private, non-profit membership organization that serves as Spokane's central city advocate and service provider dedicated to the creation of a dynamic, vital and sustainable Downtown as the basis of an economically healthy region. The DSP board meets monthly the fourth Wednesday of the month to discuss budget, management and program delivery issues on behalf of the DSP membership. In order to ensure Downtown's continued success, the DSP actively pursues five strategic initiatives in collaboration with its partners, subsidiary corporation Ventures, and the community:.

Program areas at DSP

Clean & Safe Programs:Provide maintenance and secure environment services to enhance existing municipal services to more than 850 business owners and 350 property parcels inside an 80-block BID area to develop a positive and vibrant downtown.Safe Program:Implements crime prevention through environmental design initiatives; implements processes to crew to track and report observed criminal behavior; (Continued on Schedule O)maintains coordinated procedures and communications with Spokane Police Department and reinvigorate downtown safety stakeholder meetings; develops hospitality functions of "Ambassador" role with community and visitor engagement; expands existing training for onboarding, social work, motivational interviews, and DEI; enhances mobility and secure environment with vehicle and e-bike patrolling.Maintenance and Beautification Program:Collects litter, garbage bags, removing graffiti, snow, and ice; maintains downtowns green spaces and public sidewalks; preserves, enhance and plant new trees in coordination with the City Arborist; maintains coordination with City Code Enforcement to enhance viaduct cleaning and graffiti removal; encourages private property owners for property maintenance.
Parking and Transportation Programs:Monitor transportation and initiatives, increase awareness of downtown accessibility; promote greater use of transportation options; facilitate communication and support commerce during Riverside Avenue improvements; increase long-term parking stock for residential and workforce population; strengthen and expand ParkSpokane EasyPark and PremierPark validation programs; regain growth of ShuttlePark program, a partnership between Spokane Transit Authority, the Spokane Public Facilities District and the BID; continue implementing key elements of Parking Study including parking add-backs and angled parking in select neighborhoods.
Diversity, Accessibility, Economic Development and Vitality Programs:Deepen relationships with cultural organizations and associations; showcase and celebrate existing businesses and pursue incentives and grants to foster new diverse cultural business owners; see out, implement, and share educational programs to attract diversified talent in the core; strive for effective implementation of marketing, events and placemaking; implement wayfinding and placemaking initiatives; emphasize uses and access to the Spokane River and advance Zipline project; develop and promote vital back-to-work initiatives; leverage partnerships with Advantage Spokane to showcase downtown recruitment of new businesses and residential development.
The Downtown Spokane Development Association's State of Downtown Event served a total 270 attendees in one session. It promotes and encourages development and public interest in the downtown business district, features the presentation of legacy and impact awards of local downtown businesses, and it also presents key-note speakers that focus on key issues, opportunities and partnerships that are important to the health, growth, continued energy, and vibrancy of the urban core and downtown community
