Communications and Field Building- Created a press room for current stories about employee ownership.- Delivered three webinars to educate the public about Ownership Now for Equitable Recovery Campaign, communicating new approaches to access to ownership capital, innovation for new jobs, and helping our allies succeed.- Published an update to our Cannabis Equity paper- Published an update to our Individual Worker Census in partnership with the University of Wisconsin, COWS, and USFWC.- Contributed to a paper with Aspen Institute, Race and Gender Wealth Equity and the Role of Employee Share Ownership
Hotline- Launched the Owner to Owners hotline for business owners interested in selling to their employees in collaboration with NYC Deputy Mayor Phil Thompsons office, Business Outreach Center Network, ICA Group, and The Working World. Outcomes include:- 5M+ impressions of our marketing materials- 28,000 business owners sought more information from Owner to Owners- 450+ business owners or employees filled out a survey or called our hotline- 54 1:1 education meetings with NYC organizations- 12 public webinars- 700+ webinar registrants (including more than 200 business owners)- Presented webinar with NLC on Owner to Owners data and communications learnings.
Data and Research- Co-published report How Economic Democracy Impacts Workers, Firms, and Communities- Participated in advisory group for the Cooperative Governance Research Initiative (UW Center of Cooperatives) through an advisory committee- Maintained and shared Individual Worker Census dataset with two academic researchers.- Co-published the State of the Sector 2021 report. Collected data May through August, published November 2021. 144 businesses responded, an increase in participation from previous years. Collected data to understand startup businesses and conversions distinctly, and the impacts of Covid on worker coops.- Supported a team of researchers as a co-author to a chapter on worker cooperatives in the Cambridge Handbook of Community Empowerment.- Supported WCBDI data needs from October 2021 through June 2022.- Published a paper in the Journal of Participation and Employee Ownership on the findings from the economic census related to the impact of COVID-19.
