Program areas at Dancers Group
Fiscal sponsorship Dancers' Group worked with and supported 102 san francisco bay area based choreographers, dance companies, and community dance projects through our fiscal sponsorship program, which provided them with much needed administrative and financial oversight, as well as mentorship. Dancers' Group staff met online and in-person with the leaders of our sponsored projects and communicated via email and by phone about the many shifts and changes to work and activities due to continued impacts on the economy and from covid. We continued to support each projects fundraising activity and ensured funding agencies and contributors that donations and grants received on behalf of the artists/projects were well managed and funds were disbursed according to the grant proposal and their guidelines.
Artist services - artist services included the ca$h dance regranting program that awarded $100,000 in grants to 10 individual artists and 10 organizations ($5,000 each). These grants supported a diverse roster of artists, highlighting dance forms such as hip hop, bharatanatyam, philippine folk dance, african american/latinx movement art forms, danza del venado (deer dance), body music, kathak, contemporary, salsa, dance theater, oaxaca traditional dance, ballroom, japanese performing/martial arts, and more. After a three-year hiatus, bay area dance week returned in 2023 for its 23rd year. From april 21-30, the 10-day festival offered the public the opportunity to experience the region's vibrant and diverse dance scene, completely free of charge.
