Regranting: dance/nyDancenycyc delivers financial resources to the Dance community in itsrole as a regrantor. Major projects include a Dance advancement fund,which supports Dance makers with budgets under $250k; a disability.dance. Artistry. Dance and social justice fellowship program which supports disabled dancers whose work advances social justice causes; a New York City Dance rehearsal space subsidy program, which makesaffordable Dance rehearsal space more widely available.
Researchdance/nyc is committed to effective case-building grounded in action-oriented research to guide strategic and responsive policy, funding development, andmanagement practices in the metropolitan New York City area. The state of nyc Dance 2023: findings from the Dance industry census was released in december 2023, marking the organization's most recent sector-wide study and a first-of-its-kind effort to gather a critical mass of information on the economic realities of individuals and entities working in the sector. This work surfaced actionable recommendations that dance/nyDancenycyc will move into advocacy campaigns and further research focused on working conditions and wage standards in the Dance sector.
Convening:dance/nyc continues its role as a convener, connecting andeducating its constituents and strengthening the collective voice fordance. Initiatives in 2023 included digital and in-person convenings: Dance industry census roundtables, field-wide calls and a culminating research performance event + community gathering for the Dance industry to release the state of nyc Dance: findings from the Dance industry census. These events address pressing needs and plans for the future of Dance in the metropolitan nyc area.
Advocacydance/nyc advocates on behalf of the Dance sector by regularlyrepresenting its interests to the City, state, and federal governmentand to the philanthropic community. Using its research as a tool forchange and rooted in its organizational values of justice, equity, andinclusion, dance/nyDancenycyc drives policy, disseminates resources, providesself-advocacy tools, and informs investment and program development. Dance/nyDancenycyc furthered its advocacy work via ongoing engagement in legislative and public representation of the Dance workforce to the City, state, and federal governments as well as the regular dissemination of newsletters and tools for self-advocacy and civic education on its revamped advocacy page (https://bit.ly/dancenyc_advocacy) and its New dwr hub (https://hub.dance.nyc/). The organization's leadership training, networking, and convening efforts included the continuation of field-wide calls to help educate, deliver resources, instigate dialogue, and foster peer learning and collective action around timely initiatives, tools, and resources; in addition to its ongoing partnership with the 19-member dwr advisory group and 9-member dwr network httpshubdancenycaboutadvisorygrou... Itremains adaptable to best serve the changing needs of danceworkers,artists, organizations, and businesses to ensure that dancethrives in the metropolitan nyc area. Dance/nyc's website, dance.nycDancenycyc, which launched in 2014, is the "go to" site for Dance promotional and management resources and positions the organization for leadership in Service technology. Dance.nyDancenycyc offers a community calendar, listings boards, resources and promotional platforms for the Dance community and includes its research and advocacy work for the public. The organization also sends out weekly and monthly e-newsletters and social media campaigns about ongoing news and opportunities of importance to the metropolitan New York City area Dance community. Dance/nyDancenycyc made considerable progress building a New mini-site - the dwr hub - (hub.dance.nyc), which launched in december 2023 with a resource library for Dance workers' professional development and self-advocacy and a digital home for the fifth state of nyc Dance research report.the hub augments the digital reach of dance/nyc's website, dance.nycDancenycyc, which continues to serve as a centralized platform for Dance community engagement and professional development resources.
