Program areas at Da Camera Society of Texas
Subscription Series - Da Camera's 2022-23 season explored an extraordinary range of music, from outstanding composers of the past, to living composers who are breaking new ground today. Highlights included violinist Gil Shaham's sublime performance of Dvorak, the Houston debut of Ruckus and Emi Ferfuson, and Golijov's "Falling Out of Time." Our jazz series saw dazzling performances by Branford Marsalis, Cecile McLorin Salvant, and Christian McBride. Finally, in May 2023, Da Camera premiered "Unearthed," a new major work by jazz drummer and composer Kendrick Scott.
Education and Community Engagement Programming: Da Camera presented a variety of programs to increase its audience and enhance the appreciation of chamber music and jazz beyond the concert hall. Programs included the Da Camera Young Artist Program (a career development program for instrumentalists, vocalists and composers), in-school educational programs tailored for each classroom and facilitated by Young Artists and teaching musicians, professional development workshops with international artists and speakers, and numerous free concerts throughout the Houston community. In the 2022-23 season, Da Camera presented 606 community and educational events, impacting over 17,000 people.
