Program areas at Crossroads Community Services
Pantry:Serving clients in an environment that continued to respond to Covid-19 challenges, Crossroads' drive-thru pantry distributed 2,026,526 pounds of food in 2021. The quantity of groceries distributed provided our clients with 1,689,000 meals and saved them $3,378,000 at the grocery store. The drive thru pantry continued operating, serving 30,850 individuals. 2021 was a stellar year for the pantry as the development of the Salesforce mobile app ended with a soft launch which was extended to 25 families. The Salesforce mobile app is part of Crossroads' client centered service options offering clients a way to order nutritious food from the privacy of their homes and schedule a time for curb-side pickup which eliminates hours of waiting in line.
Hub: CCS Hub: Crossroads hosts the Kroger Reclamation Program in our 72,000 square foot warehouse. The program received 552,645 lbs. of food from 114 Kroger grocery stores which contributed to the 2021 total of 11.7 million pounds of food from donors. In 2020, CCS served 84,000 people and distributed 11.8 million pounds of food. Continuing to contend with the up and down trends of Covid, we distributed ~11.4 million pounds of food and served ~98,000 people (30,870 of whom were children) in 2021. This was enough food to prepare 9.5 million meals and save our client $22,800,000 at the grocery store.
Food Distribution Network: From our home in southern Dallas, we are uniquely poised to increase access to nutritious food even more southward to include the other counties in our service area - Ellis and Navarro. We do this through our distribution network, which grew from 41 Partner Agencies and 107 Community Distribution Partners (CDPs) in 2020 to 45 Partner Agencies and 111 active CDPs in 2021. Build Health Challenge: Our long-term goal with this project is to maintain our partnerships beyond the length of the 2.5-year grant period, expand co-located services to all Crossroads CDP sites and provide a new model for better maintaining the health of low-income people. As the lead on this $250,000 grant, Crossroads and its partners aim to improve health equity and outcomes in southern Dallas. Working through year 2 of this project, the team succeeded in hosting two health fairs. Health fair attendees were connected with the following partners: Dallas Area Rapid Transit, the North Texas Food Bank, Dallas Public Library, UT Southwestern Medical Students, Texas Health Step Texas Start Program, and Smile Magic of Dallas Buckner. Dallas County Human & Health Services also issued 43 flu vaccines and 79 covid vaccines. Community Healthcare Workers (CHW's) have cultivated a client base of 30 individuals. Clients in need have access to SNAP services and the Parkland Financial Assistance (PFA) program. The CHWs also hosted 7 health/nutrition classes. Voice of Hope CDP held 3 Parkland Community Hub events, at which 35 community members participated in health, SDOH, financial assistance screenings, and education. Community engagement was heightened by providing food to clients through the Remote Ordering site at the Parkland deHaro-Saldivar Health Center. 10 households received nutritious food through this program.
