Program areas at CARE

Approximately two-thirds of care's work relates to development programs. Care usa and partners provide innovative solutions for sustainable development through supporting new ways of supplying or strenghthening essential service delivery, building capacity, building resilience for reducing risk, and empowering the most vulnerable, particularly women and girls.

Care usa aims to inform the public about poverty, the systematic discrimination and marginalization of women and girls around the world. Care puts women and girls in the center based on the belief that poverty cannot be overcome until all people have equal rights and opportunities.

In times of conflict or disaster, care usa responds to save lives, with special attention to the needs of women and girls and the most marginalized. Care usa's humanitarian action includes preparedness and early action, emergency response and recovery, and encourages future resilience and equitable development. For the years ended june 30, 2017 and 2016 humanitarian work represented 36% and 26%, respectively, of total program expenses, reflecting the increase in conflicts and natural disasters in the countries that we operate. A list of care's emergency and disaster relief programs can be found at
