Cooperative Downtown Ministries provides a nurturing and caring environment that breaks the cycle of homelessness and empowers individuals to achieve their highest potential. It serves over 2,583 unduplicated men, women, and children with shelter, food, care, and comprehensive support in the Birmingham area during year two of the global pandemic. The ministry also prepares 1,898 food boxes while serving over 66,358 meals and handing out over 15,000 articles of clothing.

Program areas at Cooperative Downtown Ministries

In 2022, Firehouse Ministries served over 3,200 unduplicated men, women and children, serving over 121,000 meals, preparing 1,126 food boxes and handing out over 6,700 articles of clothing. According to HMIS, The Firehouse provided 328,608 services, including health referrals, case management, extreme weather sheltering, legal services, life skills support and transportation. Firehouse provided over 20,000 covid related services including testing for Covid, STDs, HIV and onsite medical care.Additionally, Firehouse housing offered 50 transitional housing beds, 24 beds for people with mental illness, 72 permanent housing bed, and 20 low-income beds to men and/or families. Additional renovations were completed throughout the housing programs.
