Program areas at ConnectiKids
Connectikids after-school tutoring and mentoring program provided children with academic and socioemotional learning support. Students were paired with a caring person and received one-on-one or small-group mentoring. Connectikids served 171 children during the 2023-2024 program year. Connectikids tutoring and mentoring program's primary objectives: have children develop a meaningful relationship with a caring tutor/mentor. This relationship allows for the following: a) enhancement of classroom learning, which leads to improved grades and attitude in school; b) promotion of a lifelong love of learning; and c) improved future orientation. Develop student comprehension of educational materials and concepts (literacy, reading comprehension, math/problem-solving), all foundations for long-term academic success. Improve study skills and attitudes towards academics. To enhance problem-solving, improve communication skills, and engender increased self-esteem. Foster self-confidence, self-exploration, and self-sufficiency. Expose students to new people, places, and opportunities. Expose students to reading, developing vocabulary, exposure to various book genres, and strengthening fluency.
The summer program is an academic and enrichment program for students in grades 2-12 that provides a hands-on academic curriculum with enrichment studies, including arts, stem, culinary, sports, and dance. The summer program also provides high school-aged students with career and college readiness curriculums that include resume building, interview skills, and college tours. Connectikids served 101 children during the summer of 2024.
The after-school arts and enrichment program provided children with stem, art, culinary arts, and life skills classes, including career readiness. Connectikids served 196 children for enrichment in 2023-2024.
