Description
Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute develops the next generation of Latino leaders by providing paid congressional internships and fellowships, leadership development and curriculum, and mentoring. Every year, it convenes hundreds of current and emerging leaders to discuss critical policy issues affecting the Latino community and the nation. It also offers public policy and graduate fellowship programs to 17 talented young Latinos who have earned their bachelor's or master's degrees, respectively, providing them with a nine-month opportunity to participate in a public policy fellowship.

Program areas at CHCI

Public policy and graduate fellowship programs: these programs offer on average 26 talented, young latinos a year, who have earned their bachelor's or master's degrees respectively, the opportunity to participate in a nine month public policy fellowship on capitol hill in a Congressional office, committee or federal agency. The placement experience is complemented by weekly educational and leadership training opportunities. They also get to connect with ournation's leaders on various issues. Fellows receive roundtrip airfare, a bi-monthly stipend, monthly metro benefit card, and optional healthcare.
Public policy conference: every year, Chci convenes hundreds of current and emerging leaders from the public and private sectors to discuss critical policy issues and trends affecting the latino community and the nation. The two-day leadership conference features summits and plenaries, often chaired by members of congress and Chci's board of directors, that address issues such as home ownership, workforce development, gender parity, diversity and inclusion, education, healthcare, immigration, workforce development, entrepreneurship, technology and other contemporary issues including corporate social responsibility.
Congressional internship program: these internships run spring, summer and fall and provide approximately 66 college undergraduates a year the opportunity to be placed in a Congressional office to gain first-hand knowledge of the u.s. Legislative process. The placement experience is complemented by weekly educational and leadership trainings and opportunities to connect with our nation's leaders on various issues. Interns receive roundtrip airfare, a bi-monthly stipend, monthly metro benefit card, housing and optional healthcare.
