Program areas at CCNA
The Concerned Citizens Network of Alexandria CCNA Reach and Rise for Excellence RARE is the flagship mentoring and tutoring Stem to Stream program that meets every day at the Francis C. Hammond middle school on Monday through Thursday from 315 to 515 to focus on the following key components academic achievement, leadership development, cultural education, mentoring, and parent involvement. Currently focus is on math, reading, and technology. Parent workshops are also offered. Community forums are held once or twice during the year to focus on building community support and relationships. RARE is a unique, innovative and cooperative initiative that brings together local community organizations and the Alexandria City Public Schools ACPS to address the low academic achievement and high school dropout rates among Black, Hispanic, and economically disadvantaged students in Alexandria.
