Program areas at Compass

Intergenerational Rock Band Choir began in 2022. The program has had a total of 72 participants. The choir rehearses once each week for 8 weeks and there has only been two sessions. The Compass Intergenerational Rock Band Choir is comprised of community members from ages 8-80! All participants will be singing as a choir backed by an instrumental band and will perform 12 songs that span from the 50s to now. No music training experience is needed to enjoy this fun and exciting musical program!
Jam Night began in 2022. The program has had a total of 30 participants. The camp is two days and there have been 2 sessions. Jam Night is an overnight event for musical youth, ages 9-14. During this time, students will participate in music games, a songwriting class, karaoke, watch a music themed movie and split into small ensembles with a goal to write a song (or twoor more), that will be performed in the morning. Musical equipment has been donated for temporary use each session. The equipment is used for band rehearsals. (sound systems, microphones).
Music Camp began in 2012 the program has served a total of 231 participants from 2012-2019 and 2022. The camp is one week long and there have been 8 camp sessions. There were no activities held in 2020 or 2021 due to pandemic. Music Camp is a seven day program focused on giving mid-Missouri youth the opportunity to learn, create, and perform. Camp participants will have instrument lessons; theory, history and songwritting classes; sound, recording, art, and social media workshops; screen printing, and band rehearsal. This program is designed for campers to experience the joy of writitng and playing music led by musicians in our community. Musical equipment has been donated for temporary use each year. The equipment is used for band reheasrsals, instrument lessons, workshops and classes. DAddario Foundation has made in-kind donations 2012-2013.
Songwriting Camp began in 2022. The program has had a total of 7 participants. The camp is one week long and there has only been one camp session. During this six day songwriting camp, students (ages 10-13) will learn to work together to create fun and new music, using each others ideas. No prior music or songwriting skills are needed for students to participate and thrive in this musical experience. Activities will include musical based games, song discussion, songwriting, and experimenting with instruments. Students will learn basic music and songwriting skills that will culminate in a performance to showcase what the group created. Musical equipment has been donated for temporary use. The equipment is used for rehearsals, classes, and the showcase concert. (percussion equipment)
