Over the past 97 years, cmc has created pathways to music as diverse as san francisco. Last year more than 2,600 students, ranging in age from 2 to 94, benefited from the expertise of 130 teachers through lessons, ensemble classes, workshops, and community performances. The faculty includes noted professional artists, grammy award-winning musicians and nationally recognized teachers. Cmc students and teachers reflect the demographics of the mission and richmond districts, where cmc operates its headquarters and a branch facility. Both are home to many latin and asian immigrants. Students, teachers, and guest artists of international stature are featured in hundreds of concerts each year, held in the 139-seat cmc concert hall and at partnership sites.cmc's mission of accessibility drives every aspect of its work. Its substantial tuition-assistance program supports students through free programs, scholarships, sliding-scale tuition, and work study. The organization's commitment to diversity is also reflected in the range ...

In 2012, cmc purchased the neighboring building, taking advantage of a rare opportunity to expand in place in the mission district. The current capital campaign will support renovation of both buildings, the concert hall and central courtyard, to create a single, integrated campus. The immediate goal is to provide additional and improved space for core activities in educational and creative realms, with increased accessibility. The ultimate goal is to serve our community long into the future, offering an example to other organizations of the potential of music education to provide evidence-based, measurable benefits to students of all ages and backgrounds. During the fiscal year ended june 30, 2017, $2,142,142 was raised in temporarily restricted and permanently restricted funds for the capital campaign, including a $1 million that was pledged by aroha in matching funds.
