Program areas at Common Ground Center

Camp Common Ground - The inter-generational family camp founded in 1994, is the Center's marquee program and operates four 1-week sessions in July and August. The program is designed to create positive family outcomes. We welcome people of all ages, ethnicities, orientations, abilities and economic backgrounds. The program focuses on creative expression, fun, great food and community. Campers have the opportunity to explore the many options available in one week or to immerse themselves more deeply in one particular activity. At Camp Common Ground we believe that a healthy family time should provide opportunities for shared experiences, as well as a chance for personal growth and revitalization. Our programs incorporate both of these elements, offering a balance of age specific and multi-age programming. CGC devoted financial aid for this program to ensure any family could attend regardless of their ability to pay.
Camp Kaleidoscope - Camp K is a unique residential program for families with children on the Autism Spectrum (ASD). Camp K provides a safe, positive and educational experience for the entire family including siblings, and programs for adults. At Camp K, each family is paired with a Family Partner, a volunteer student studying in a health-related field, most often graduate students in Speech & Language Pathology (SLP). By facilitating and adapting many activities to the specific needs of their campers, Family Partners open up a wider range of possibilities and connections for the whole family. Camp K welcomed over a dozen families and provided intensive training to 30 graduate students in SLP.
Group Programming - We partner with established community organizations to provide programs programs on our site. The largest programs are: Camp Outright, a week-long residential program for youth between the ages of 13-18. It offers traditional summer camp activities including arts, hiking, swimming, drama, yoga, campfires, talent show, along with workshops and discussion groups geared specifically toward meeting the needs identified by LGBTQQA youth. Campers have the opportunity to be outdoorsy, creative, dramatic, artistic, athletic, goofy, and most of all, themselves. Overcoming Barriers Family Camp is a multi-family, multi-day residential program that offers families an opportunity to rebalance the family dynamics that have led to and supported high conflict and disruption in parent-child relationships. It gives families the ability to reconsider the burden of a strained parent-child relationship. With support of an internationally renowned program and staff, and other parents and children confronting similar problems, family members participate in traditional camp activities and in Adult and Child specialized intervention programs conducted by skilled, experienced, and supportive staff.
The Center operated four weeks of its signature family camp program, camp commonground, with over 300 particpants; plus camp kaleidoscope for 60 kids on the autismspectrum, separate women's and men's weekends, and a camp for lgbtq youths.
