Program areas at Commission for the Las Vegas Centennial

Boyd Productions : The City of Las Vegas: The Early Years (1940s & 1950s) Funding was awarded for the costs associated with producing Part 4 and Part 5 of the documentary film series "The City of Las Vegas." Parts 4 and 5 highlight the history of the city covering the time periods of 1940-1949 and 1950-1959. This is a 2-year project, with the 1940s film released in May 2022 and the 1950s film released in May 2023.
National Atomic Testing Museum Funding was awarded for the costs associated with the development, design and implementation of an expanded exhibit and learning space in the new museum. The program will include artifacts and educational materials related to the history of atomic testing and its relationship with the city of Las Vegas.
Plaza Hotel & Casino: Las Vegas Days Rodeo Funding was awarded for the costs associated with the production of the Las Vegas Days Rodeo. The Las Vegas Days (formerly Helldorado Days) Rodeo takes place at the Core Arena Annually. The event allows the community to come together once a year to celebrate the history of the city as it was associated with Helldorado Days, reminisce about past events and introduce newcomers to the event.
Las Vegas Days Parade 2022 City of Las Vegas Funding was awarded for the costs associated with the production and running of the 2022 Las Vegas Days Parade. The Las Vegas Days Parade, formally the Helldorado Parade, is an annual one day parade that will be held on Saturday May 14, 2022. The parade route follows along 4th Street through Downtown Las Vegas.
Whole Enchilada Project City of Las Vegas Funding was awarded for the restoration, installation and maintenance of historic neon signs located in front of historic motor court motels located along East Fremont Street. The following signs were restored and reinstalled; (1) Travelers Motel, (2) Lucky Motel, (3) Las Vegas Motel, (4) Fremont Motel, (5) Starview Motel, and (6) Las Gables Motel.
Neon Museum Brilliant! Expansion Neon Museum Funding was awarded for the costs associated with the expansion and enhancement of the educational element of the current audiovisual immersive experience known as "Brilliant!" located in the Neon Museum's North Gallery. Project costs include the production of lighted interpretative panels, a wall mural depicting major entertainers and neon signs from Las Vegas's past, and a "selfie" spot located in front of a special vinyl backdrop.
HPC Funding City of Las Vegas Funding was awarded to provide funding and support for historic commemoration and preservation purposes and initiatives, with the following components: (a) support for surveys of historic districts, neighborhoods and landmarks; (b) educational awards focused on historic preservation; (c) oral history projects; (d) public awareness campaigns; (e) funding for the production and installation of plaques and markers for historic properties; (f) award Funding s for the research, documentation and preservation of Las Vegas' historic resources; and (g) engagement in other related preservation activities within the scope of the Historic Preservation Commission's authority.
History of Children's Discovery Museum Discovery Children's Museum Funding was awarded for the costs associated with the production and distribution of a documentary film highlighting the history of the museum. Staff at the Discovery Children's Museum created a documentary film to celebrate the 30th Anniversary of the museum, whose core mission is to educate and engage in vibrate learning opportunities for the city's youth. The objective of the documentary project is to educate local audiences about the museum's impact on the community and preserve its history of growth and evolution in response to a changing Las Vegas landscape. The documentary will highlight the community leaders and collaborations who brought the museum into being, as well as its first location, architecture and community focused programs.
CLV Digitization of Historical Materials and Records City of Las Vegas Funding was awarded for the costs associated with digitizing historical material stored at the city's Archives and Records Center (ARC). The city's ARC houses a collection of approximately one-hundred and sixteen thousand (116,000) photographs, negatives and slides depicting life in Las Vegas and Nevada that date from 1905 to the early 2000s. The growing collection has been housed at the ARC for over a decade and was in danger of deterioration, therefore a project to digitize the collection was necessary.
Scenic Byway: Rummel Motel/Par-A-Dice Signs City of Las Vegas Funding was awarded for the costs associated with the refurbishment and installation of the Rummel Motel sign and the Par-A-Dice Motel sign. The signs will to be located on Las Vegas Boulevard between St. Louis Avenue and 4th Street.
NPF Home + History 2022 Nevada Preservation Foundation Funding was awarded for the costs associated with the planning and running of the Home & History 2022 Event. Home & History celebrates the history, people, and architecture of Las Vegas through a series of lectures and walking and driving tours at a variety of historic-aged places located throughout the city.
NPF Revolving Fund Nevada Preservation Foundation Funding was awarded for the costs associated with aiding in the establishment of a Revolving Fund Program. The program aims to rehabilitate and restore historic single-family and small, multi-family dwellings in Las Vegas's historic neighborhoods. Centennial Commission funding was awarded for the production of a feasibility study, a business development plan, as well as associated staff costs for the project. The project's plan focuses on restoring structures within the Historic Westside.
NV Prsvn Foundation-Hugh Taylor Archives Nevada Preservation Foundation Funding was awarded for the costs associated with digitizing and uploading archival drawings from the Hugh E. Taylor (a mid-century architect who worked primarily in Las Vegas) Collection into a database. Photographic prints and other documents associated with the archive were also digitized and uploaded into the database. These include 3D walkthroughs of six now demolished Hugh E. Taylor Homes, five virtual exhibits highlighting Taylor's work and an oral history. CLV HISTORICAL DOCUMENTARY PREMIERE City of Las Vegas FUNDING WAS AWARDED TO COVER THE COSTS ASSOCIATED WITH HOSTING A PREMIERE OF THE DOCUMENTARY FILM, "THE CITY OF LAS VEGAS: THE 1930S." THE THIRD INSTALLMENT OF THE DOCUMENTARY FILM SERIES, "THE CITY OF LAS VEGAS" PREMIERED ON MAY 15, 2021 AT THE ART HOUZ THEATERS LOCATED AT 814 SOUTH 3RD STREET.
UNLV ASIAN AMERICAN PACIFIC ISLANDER (AAPI) ORAL HISTORY PROJECT City of Las Vegas FUNDING WAS AWARDED FOR THE COSTS ASSOCIATED WITH AN ORAL HISTORY PROJECT TO DOCUMENT THE HISTORY OF THE AAPI COMMUNITY IN LAS VEGAS. ORAL HISTORIES WILL BE COLLECTED FROM GROUPS OF INDIGENOUS PEOPLE FROM THE PHILIPPINES, CHINA, KOREA, VIETNAM, THE INDIAN SUBCONTINENT, JAPAN, HAWAII, AMERICAN SAMOA, AND GUAM. THE INTERVIEWS WILL BE TRANSCRIBED, PRINTED AND BOUND AS HARD COPIES, AS WELL AS DIGITIZED FOR RESEARCH PURPOSES. THE INTERVIEWS WILL ALSO BE MADE AVAILABLE VIA A PODCAST PROGRAM. ALL ASSOCIATED DOCUMENTS, PHOTOGRAPHS AND MANUSCRIPTS WILL ALSO BE COLLECTED AND STORED IN THE SPECIAL COLLECTIONS ARCHIVES. IN ADDITION, TWO COMMUNITY EVENTS WILL BE HELD TO MARK THE ACHIEVEMENTS OF THE PROJECT.
