Description
Color Compton builds communities across cultures and generations through history and the arts. It offers creative after-school learning opportunities that explore BIPOC history, develop new skills, and build confidence in young people through art. Participants delve into art and history internships. Color Compton also provides a community archive program where youth contribute to an accessible catalogue for the larger community while developing critical conversation around archives and archiving processes.

Program areas at Color Compton

Art and history interships. Programming that provides a creative after school learning environment to work alongside young people to explore BIPOC history, develop new skills, and build confidence in themsleves through the use of art. Participants delve into the histiographies of how Black and Brown narratives have been shaped and how they are recorded and remembered in the U.S. The youth are equipped with various mediums and storytelling tools to develop their own narratives about themselves, their family and community. Over the course of three internships year-round, we directly impact 25-30 students and 75-100 indirectly.
Community conversations and art workshops. These events are open to all in the community and are meant to foster cross-cultural and cross- generational dialogue and connections. Through these events we impact 800-1000 community members.
Color Compton Community Archive. Youth are equipped with the tools to create and contribute to a community archive. Youth develop critical conversation around archives and the archiving process and develop an accessible catalogue for the larger community. Our cohort fellowship consists of 8-10 directly impacted students
