Program areas at Sage Healthcare
Clinic - Sage Healthcare seeks out the homeless, substance users, victims of domestic violence and the poor to provide Healthcare services including medical, behavioral health, physical therapy, and lab services at no cost to the patient. This is accomplished through our volunteer network. The costs are associated with maintenance and renovation of the house used for schizophrenia outpatient treatment, malpractice insurance, medical supplies, electronic medical record and other ancillary supplies needed to provide care in a clinic such as evaluation equipment, medicine, paper record and data keeping/storage, website maintenance, printer/copier costs and other incidentals. Free services provided for 2024 includes over 4000 medical and behavioral health visits at a market value of over $800,000.
Education - Sage Healthcare affiliates with local universities to provide didactic and clinical experiences for nurse practitioner, social work and other health discipline students supervised by either university faculty or Sage volunteers. Follow-up and research is performed to assess community wellness improvement based on our free services provided. Costs include maintaining staffing in the clinic that can coordinate scheduling. Additional costs include data collection and maintenance, report writing and results dissemination. Sage has affiliations via memorandums of understanding (mous) with 9 universities including yale, fairfield, sacred heart, quinnipiac, iona, albertus magnus, bridgeport, capella, wilkes and is pursuing other affiliations. This has allowed us to host over 160 Healthcare students in 2024 to perform there clinical education hours.
Scholarship - Sage provides educational opportunities through individual grants, scholarship and fellowship awards to 1) individuals wishing to serve this population in the longer term [nursing or other Healthcare school scholarships, community research projects; supporting other 501c3 entities that offer services to our population. 2) clients of Sage services in need of funding to move forward in their life goals (i.e. Drivers license renewals, work license renewals, tuition payments, etc. ); 3) continuing education or research stipend for staff, volunteers, clients who need assistance in gaining or expanding knowledge on how to better serve this population. In 2024, we sponsored 3 undergraduate college students, 2 certificate students, 9 doctoral student projects and over 15 individuals in there preparation for job placement.
