A program of Coconut Grove Cares, the barnyard is a neighborhoodcommunity center, located in the heart of Coconut grove-village west.it is a magical place for children 5-12, to learn, play, share andgrow. The focus of the after school and summer camp program offeredat the barnyard is on improving students' literacy, social skills, andfostering academic growth. The children and their families also benefitfrom mentoring, one-on-one tutoring, and psychological counseling. Allservices provided are free to the community. These services are building a stronger west Coconut Grove by addressing educational disparities and promoting healthy environments.the after school and summer program served 104 unduplicated children.the after school program focused on tutoring, homework help,outdoor recreational activities, art, music, mindfulness, and mental health. Parenting workshops and social service referrals were also offered during the school year. Services were provided monday through friday from 2 pm to 6pm. Coconut Grove Cares, minding the gap, first serve miami and music reach partnered to provide a six week summer camp from 8:00 am to 5:30 pm. The summer camp focused on preventing summer brain drain and taking advantage of time away from school to enrich children's understanding, so that those performing on grade-level can advance more quickly, and those performing below grade level can catch up to their peers. The 5ummer camp also provided enriching programming in art, music, tennis, yoga and field trips to museums and the beach.
