Program areas at Coastal Resources Group
Crg/krf continues to work with the u.s. army corps of engineers to develop projects funded by monies in trust to offset wetland impacts in the Florida keys. Program funding received during 2022 is currently being planned for 2 additional projects in the Florida keys for the restoration of the evnvironment. These projects will provide educational opportunities for visiting pennekamp state park and johnson tract in sugarloaf key. Conintue to educate residents about wetland conservation via public meetings. Funding educational signs at boat ramp for protecting seagrass at lignumvitae key state park. Crg/krf will also fund printing of new boating guides to help the public to better navigate the park's narrow boat channels/reduce impact.
Crg worked with the rookery bay national estuarine research reserve (rbnerr)and the conservancey of sw Florida to monitor mangrove health and water flows after the consturction of a new roadway. All data is available to the public.
Crg received grant funding to implement a second oyster reff restoration project at pelican island national wildlife refuge. Pelican island nwr routinely provides educational opportunities through sightseeing tours for the puble to engage in evnironmental education. The newly constructed oyster reef will be an addition to this program.
Crg worked with rbnerr on the fruit farm creek project to restore 64 acres of mangroves & provides educational opportunities for outreach. Additionally, crg under this project works with the mangrove coast science collaborative which brings research from south fl & puerto rico together to engage in reserach planning & public outreach.
