Public lands management for the protection of native forest and the conservation of aqautic ecosystem values such as native salmon. Our work in this program focused on federal forest planning. We assisting the BLM in planning for their Western Oregon forest lands and placed extentive comments into the record regard their new plan. We provided the BLM volumous input regarding their FEIS for Western Oregon Specifically, we provided over 200 pages of detailed, science-based comments regarding changes fo the Aquatic Conservation Strategy portion of the BLM's Western Oregon district plans. We continue to monitor USDA Forest Service planning efforts for forests under the Northwest Forest Plan
Conservation advocacy for marine biodiversity and the resilience of Oregon's coastal communities. We continue to conduct public education regarding the implementation of Oregon's system of nearshore marine reserves. We work closely with the Marine Section of the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife on marine reserve implementation. Coastal staff person, Jim Carlson supports two community groups proximate to north coast nearshore marine reserves - Cascade Head and Cape Falcon. In we began assessing and assembling science-based information addressing climate change and ocean conditions. We began consulting Oregon-based scientists on the potential for sea-level rise, current ocean acidification issues and coastal Beach CrOstO
Public interest research and advocacy for sustainable private forest management - including increased riparian area protections private lands. Our work to advance riparian protections for streams occurs through our support for the Oregon Stream Protection Coalition This work is led by Mary Scurlock who we provided $12,000 in support during the year Our 2nd efforton private forests involved original research documenting forest ownership for all counties in the Coast Range reqion, research into Oregon's forest property tax systemn, and a compilation of literature addressing tmber production and ecological impacts resulting from financial forest management Over 12 community meetings occured delivering the results of our research As with our Ocean Program, we are deeply assessing the scientific literature on climate and forests.
