Beginning in 2003, the Mountain Stewards initiated its mission in building recreational facilities for the public in North GA. Then in we began the Indian Cultural Heritage Program to locate, document and preserve Indian sacred sites throughout the US We travel over 10,000 miles a year using volunteer funding and some public support to teach about the Indian heritage doing over lectures a year. We speak to about 600-800 people each year to help them understand about Indian culture. We publish a a quarterly newsletter to over 500 people and have a Facebook page with over 1,600 people. We are constantly doing research and documenting more Indian sites. We work with tribal elders to pass this information along and to seek their quidance. As new information is collected, we write reports to be shared with those interested in the documentation of Indian sites. A great deal of the expenses of doing this work is voluntarily covered by the individuals doing the work. We also assisted a group in Colorado this year create another non-profit organization to support the Ute Indian Nation
Saving the Indian culture about their use of ees and tails was begun through print media but the primary means was filmed interviews of tribal elders and "old timers” who know some of the history of the use of trees. In 2007, the Mountain Stewards embarked on an effort to try and capture on film the story of the trees as told through the eyes of the tribal elders. Without significant foundation or sponsor funding, the Mountain Stewards pressed forward raising funds annually and volunteering a lot of time accomplish this task. In January 2015, the film was released and has been shown to audiences across the nation. The film and book have been the principal means to expand our efforts to educate the public on Indian culture. We continue to travel the country filming more about the Indian culture working this year in TX, NW, CO and IL and throughout the the southeast. We ended the year with only books left and will not be reprinting it. The DVD documentary will continue to be a source of income but very much Than Previous Years. een cence rene cenenen ene nennenenen cen nnenne sateen
