This Financial Year saw growth of our major initiatives as well a shift back to physical events to support of convening role in bringing business and governments together to support climate action. Climate Week NYC grew to the biggest year to day, now bringing together over 500 events across the city as well as hosting a series of high-level sessions specifically aligned to our work. This in turn has supported our decision to develop and grow the US Climate Action Summit, aimed at specifically addressing US opportunities for business, government and the NGO sector, to take place annually ahead of Earth Day. Electric vehicles, renewable energy and built environment continue to be focal points of our work, attracting new members and creating opportunities for pursuing a wider and more ambition range of activities, both across systems and government networks. As Secretariat of the Under2 Coalition we have also seen positive engagement at a subnational level and used this to look for additional opportunities to align with our systems priorities. Following a fully digital Climate Week NYC in 2020 due to Covid-19 we developed a hybrid event approach to ensure we could continue the growth of the week whilst supporting wider engagement for those unable to travel. Our Opening Ceremony took place as a physical event with reduced capacity that was livestreamed whilst our "The Hub Live" series was broadcast from a studio to a worldwide audience. Our wider week program of events, hosted by third parties and promoted through our platform, grew to over 500 events. These were a mixture of digital, hybrid and physical events, spread across ten key themes and hosted within the five boroughs of New York City. Our persistent growth over previous years and resilience through the pandemic help ensure Climate Week NYC has growth to one of the most significant moments in the climate calendar, supported increased unrestricted income through sponsorship, and oversaw an major upsurge in media engagement. This included a partnership with the eight major late-night TV shows who created an evening of climate related content, called Climate Night, that was viewed by millions across US networks and saw major international coverage. Climate Week NYC continues to provide a forum for accelerating climate action by bringing together senior figures from business and government, including our networks, to tackle a range of themes and topic that align with our organizational goals. The increasing popularity and reputation of the week, alongside increasing incomes, has allowed us more freedom to create content and sessions more targeted to our specific areas of work and global priorities, ensuring that this major project provides significant value to the success of our government and systems work. Following the success of the US Climate Action Week in 2020, creating a platform to bring together events and initiatives around Biden's Climate Action Summit in the style of Climate Week NYC, we decided to develop the concept in a way that would further focus on our organizational priorities. We decided the best way to do this would be to adapt the week from a convening moment to a curated day of sessions exploring US specific business and government priorities for climate action, renamed the US Climate Action Summit. Due to the unpredictable recovery from lockdown due to Covid-19 we decided to make this a livestreamed event, broadcast from a studio in Washington DC. The event brought together over 500 senior leaders from business and government who heard from and engaged with a range of high-profile speakers. EV100 - EV100 members have now totaled 119 members. New EV100 members from July 2021 to June 2022: Gilead Sciences, NRG Energy Inc and Veris Residential. Collectively they have committed almost 4,000 vehicles. Corporate US members have committed 20,641 vehicles while our biggest commitment is from US leasing company Lyft, of over 2,000,000 vehicles. From the 2022 Annual Report (released in March 2022) EV100 corporate members have deployed 1,337 EVs while leasing companies have deployed over 32,000 vehicles. RE100 members now total 402, with over 430 TWh committed to renewable electricity as of March 2023. RE100 had 12 new members from the US from July 2021 to June 2022, including Pfizer, Home Depot, Eli Lilly, Neiman Marcus Group, and Discovery. These new commitments added another 7TWh committed to renewable electricity annually. Within RE100's 2022 Annual Report (from 2021 reporting), 94 members were headquartered in the US, with 221 members reporting operations there. Overall, members procure 68% renewable electricity in the region. Procurement in the North American single market (US & Canada) accounts for 47% of all procurement of renewables reported by RE100 members. In the 2022 report, PPAs accounted for half the procurement in the region, showing how impactful member procurement methods are in adding new renewables to grid in the US and driving forward the transition to net zero. EP100 had 6 new members join from July 2021 to end of June 2022 - Arcelik, Chalet Hotels, Deutsche Bank, Grab, Sungrow Power and Worely Services. Four of these members have begun reporting for EP100 (Deutsche Bank and Grab are in a grace period for the Net Zero Carbon Buildings Commitment) and have help EP100 members to: Reduce emissions (Carbon dioxide equivalent) by 380m metric tonnes to date and 39.5 million metrics tonnes in the last year. Save 1,085 TWh of energy. See cost savings of USD 140 million in the last year and USD1.2 billion since implementing energy efficiency measures. In our 2021 report (published March 2022), DLL met their EP100 target, adding to a total of 4 members who have met their EP100 target. Our Climate Week NYC event in September 2021 engaged in discussions on The Future of Buildings, with speakers from the White House Council on Environmental Quality, World Economic Forum, AT&T, Duke Energy and Under2 member Premier Winde of Western Cape, South Africa. We hosted our first annual thought leadership webinar in March 2022 to celebrate the release of our 2021 report and shine a spotlight on World Energy Efficiency Day, hearing from Kevin Lane (IEA) as our keynote speaker and EP100 members JSW Cement and Siemens in our panel discussion. In June 2022 we hosted an event at EP100 member Mitie's headquarters in The Shard as part of London Climate Action Week. We welcomed EP100 members and climate sector organisations to our event, hearing from Cundall, Mitie and ISG on the importance role buildings play in climate action. Climate Group's Finance Fit for Change report, supported by Stiftung Mercator, was published in March 2023. Research for this pilot project was carried out by Pengwern Associates with 10 members of the Under2 Coalition in Europe and North America. It found that state and regional governments have access to a range of climate finance tools but can face different barriers to using these depending on geography, knowledge and their own specific circumstances. The research will be used to improve understanding of climate finance at subnational level and to push for support from national governments and businesses. The Green Recovery Alliance - a partnership between Climate Group and the Center for Climate Strategies - was launched in 2022 to support US subnational governments on how to target federal funding to deliver a "green recovery". This means delivering economic growth while prioritising climate resilience and social equity. The project ended in April 2023 with a webinar attended by 75 state representatives. At COP27 in November, the US State Department, alongside Bloomberg Philanthropies, announced the formation of a Subnational Climate Action Leaders Exchange (SCALE) to help cities and subnational governments develop and implement effective net zero policies and speed up action on methane emissions reduction globally. The Under2 Coalition will be a key partner on implementation as the project gets underway this year. Climate Group's work to help push forward climate action off the back of the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) continues. The IRA will free up $391 billion to invest in energy security and climate change across the United States. As part of the Green Recovery Alliance project, in April we connected 75 state government representatives to answer one key question: how to unlock this funding.
