Program areas at Clear Path for Veterans
Canine programming - Clear Path for Veterans offers select canine programs for both Veterans and community members who wish to participate in training with their canine companions. I. The community canine program engages the community in supporting Clear Path for Veterans' mission by offering training to the general public in early development and socialization, behavorial modification, basic to advanced level obedience, off-leash handling, and much more through one-on-one private training sessions and weekly puppy socialization classes.ii. The canine program offers an alternative and integrative form of healing and reintegration into civilian culture for Veterans diagnosed with post-traumatic stress, traumatic brain injury, and/or military sexual trauma. Veterans connect with their canine companions on a mutually beneficial level through a 6- to 12-month journey that has proven success in mitigating symptoms related to post-tramautic stress and increasing self-compassion.iii. The puppy development program is designed to raise and train canines for 18 to 24 months prior to being placed with a selected veteran. Each puppy is carefully selected for health, temperament, and trainability and undergoes the training cycle with the support of a specifically assigned puppy foster.
Veterans outreach services - Clear Path for Veterans offers outreach services through two programs: wingman peer mentoring and warriors working. I. The wingman peer mentoring program reaches Veterans and active duty men and women exactly where they are to empower them in establishing independent and purpose-driven lives. This program provides close, individualized support for those who need assistance in getting on track with their personal goals and objectives by pairing participants with a fellow veteran who can provide knowledge and guidance. Additionally, Clear Path for Veterans partners with national and local organizations to create an all-encompassing network of support for any need that may present itself. Ii. The warriors working program empowers Veterans to enter the workforce by equipping them with the necessary skills and training to ensure success in achieving their goals. This program provides career services support that is customized to meet each individual's unique defined needs through in-house programs and resources offered through local community organizations and employers. Veterans who require additional support work closely with a peer mentor in navigating and overcoming circumstances that inhibit forward progress.
Culinary and agriculture - each week the culinary program staff and volunteers prepare a complimentary lunch open to all Veterans, active duty, guard, reserves and their immediate family called the wednesday canteen. This nutritious lunch is served in a welcoming environment to men and women of all service eras. In addition to the weekly canteen at Clear Path for Veterans' chittenango facility, Clear Path for Veterans partners with local Veterans organizations throughout central new york to provide mobile canteens.
