Program areas at Clarksville-Montgomery County Arts and Heritage Development Council

The Clarksville Arts & Heritage Development Council printed a Cultural Calendar with work by 14 local artists and posting of local cultural events throughout the year; acted as the designated agency for the Tennessee Arts Commission to allocate Arts Build Communities funds in seven counties; hosted the sixth annual 2Rivers Plein Air Paint Out, with artists from middle Tennessee and southern Kentucky converging on Clarksville to paint the community, culminating in an exhibition and art sale on the final evening of the event; worked with the Roxy Theatre and Planters Bank to bring classic movies back to Franklin Street; hosted exhibits and receptions for the Middle Tennessee Watercolor Society; partnered with First Presbyterian Church to present a one-day symposium on Clarksville from 1842 through 1882; partnered with the Tennessee State Hall of Fame and the Womens Network to begin installing a Tennessee Discovery Trail lined with small sculptures of Tennessee symbols; publicized arts events hosted by organizations throughout the community through Facebook postings and emails; honored Brenda Harper, Martha Pile, Susan Bryant, and Billy Renkl with Lifetime Achievement Awards for their contributions to heritage and the arts in our community; worked in partnership with First Presbyterian Church of Clarksville and the Downtown Artists Co-op on the Arts 4 Hearts program to bring arts experiences to community members who face economic, physical or cognitive barriers to the arts; partnered with the APSU Center of Excellence for the Creative Arts and F & M Bank to host an October Toast to the Arts to kick off National Arts Month; collaborated with First Presbyterian Church, Trinity Episcopal Church and other organizations for SpiritFest, a pre-parade celebration of Christmas; and worked with the Tennessee Triumph Steering Committee to complete work on a statue to honor Montgomery County women who worked for the passage of the 19th Amendment (300 women showed up August 15 for a march and unveiling of Tennessee Triumph, Clarksvilles woman suffrage monument, on Public Square). We had planned the annual Clarksville Writers Conference but had to cancel it because of the Covid-19 pandemic.
