Watershed enhancement Clackamas River Basin Council (crbc) partners with public and private agencies and our community members to complete in-stream and riparian enhancement projects. Together, we identify and implement priority projects that improve water quality and enhance fish and wildlife habitat. We complete restoration projects that provide improved habitat for fish and wildlife including habitat complexity, increased access to side channels, improved fish passage and restored riparian function. Access, and implements priority protection, restoration and conservation projects as identified by the watershed assessment and action plan. It also encourages community investment in restoration of the Clackamas River watershed through on-the-ground fish and wildlife habitat restoration projects. Clackamas River invasive species partners (crisp) assist landowners in removing invasive weeds from their properties. The crisp plan identifies strategies to manage invasive weeds in the Clackamas River watershed. See attached for summaries of the year's accomplishments.
Monitoring & assessment crbc collects aquatic and riparian data that is used to inform watershed management and project design. We monitor fish, wildlife, and water quality with community volunteers. We share collected water quality data and plan for ways to protect and improve water quality in the Clackamas River Basin. Water temperature contributes to maintaining water quality. The organization monitors temperature data collection at over 80 sites in the watershed and coordinates a temperature modeling study with a portland state university graduate program. A voluntary pesticide reduction program offers landowners pesticide free or pesticide wise lawn signs for eliminating or reducing their pesticide use based on their pesticide reduction pledge. Crbc also is a member of a forest collaborative stewardship group the Clackamas stewardship partners that works in partnership with the us forest service mount hood, Clackamas ranger district.
Outreach and education- our education and outreach program connects people with place the Clackamas River Basin. Our community members are actively engaged in stewardship for the watershed. Watershed health improvements are achieved with community involvement and community investment promoted through education and outreach. Local community members including streamside property owners, students and others receive educational opportunities on watershed restoration and conservation techniques that result in long-term stewardship commitments for the Clackamas River watershed. Our community members are actively engaged in stewardship for the watershed including tree planting, invasive weed removal such as ivy pulling, and adding christmas trees into habitat structures for added protection and food generation for fish and other aquatic species. Thousands of volunteers dedicate their time and talents to watershed stewardship activities, education and outreach activities build awareness and engage individuals from surrounding communities.
