Program areas at Chuckanut Health Foundation
Grant making & scholarships: Chuckanut Health Foundation's legacy of granting making has resulted in over $17 million given to Whatcom County health related nonprofit projects since the Foundation's inception in 1982. Grant funding helps the Foundation achieve its vision through collaboration with nonprofit and community partners by supporting improvements in human rights, healthcare access, professional training, and more. In addition, the Foundation has established several scholarship funds. Scholarships are granted to students pursuing professions in the healthcare industry. During 2023, the Foundation awarded over $68,000 in grants and $48,600 in scholarships to local organizations and students.
Community Funds and Strategic Partnerships: The Foundation hosts a variety of community funds for groups who are seeking to fundraise for a specific project or cause aligned with the Foundation's mission to advance individual and community health in Whatcom County. At the end of 2023, the Foundation had 20 established funds and strategic partnerships, including: Racial Equity Commission, LEAD, Laurendeau Cancer Care, and Todd McClure Memorial.
CHF Initiatives: The Foundation's work centers around several initiatives, including Children and Families, Aging Well Whatcom, Connecting Care/Youth Mental Health, Opioid Prevention, Health Equity, and Civic Belonging. In 2023, the Foundation spent over $200,000 in furthering these initiatives.
Fiscal Sponsorships: The Foundation is proud to offer fiscal sponsorship to local projects and groups whose work is aligned with our mission to advance individual and community health in Whatcom County. Fiscal sponsorship allows grassroots groups to fundraise for their work without having to establish their own 501(c)(3) nonprofit, helping to foster community-led efforts to keep our neighbors healthy.
