Program areas at Chimes Family of Services
Chimes Maryland traces it's roots back to 1947 when The school of The Chimes was founded by a group of parents who wanted a program to help their children with intellectual disabilities to reach their fullest potential possible. Chimes school was The first of its kind in The state of Maryland and still exists to this day. The vision and scope of Chimes' services has grown and now includes a wide variety of community-based day and employment services as well as community living options for people with a wide array of disabilities. Over The past year, Chimes Maryland served more than 900 people throughout The state. Community living options Chimes Maryland offers an array of supported living options and staffing alternatives to enable individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities to live in homes and communities of their choice. Traditional residential options include agency-operated single family homes and apartments for people who choose to live with roommates and may require 24 hour support. Many of The homes are fully wheelchair accessible with specialized adaptive equipment. Private shared living homes are available for people that prefer a family setting with agency oversight. As part of Chimes' services, support is also available in private homes.
The Chimes school - this non-public full day special education school provides services for students with autism, intellectual disabilities, and multiple disabilities in kindergarten and elementary (grades 1-8), and a non-graded (ages 5 through 21) education program.
Day and employment services Chimes Maryland supports and services are both facility and community-based with individuals having The opportunity to move within The programs as their needs and preferences change. The day support programs focus on leisure, social, and non-work-related activities as an alternative option to employment services. Activities are outcome-oriented and designed to meet The person's individual needs and desires, while helping to reinforce and enhance mobility, communication, self-care, socialization, and leisure skills. Chimes employment program is tailored to individuals who have a focus on paid competitive employment. Program participants have access to job development, job coaching, and job placement opportunities which are geared to The individual's aptitudes and interests.
