Program areas at Chagrin Valley Little Theatre
Theater productions: For the past 89 years, Chagrin Valley Little Theatre has been recognized throughout the region as a venue for high quality, affordable productions that showcase the talents of area actors and delight thousands of theater lovers. During the 2019-2020 season, CVLT was able to stage only one musical (over the Christmas holidays) and one non-musical in its 242 seat main theater, three newer, edgier plays at its 70 seat River Street Theater, one of which was an original play by a local playwright, and three special events. In mid-March, 2020 the theater was forced to close its doors due to the COVID 19 pandemic. As a result at least five additional productions had to been cancelled. The theater was able to stream a couple of recorded past performances during the summer of 2020. Over 3,700 individuals attended roughly 44 performances, given by over 85 performers while the theater was still open and over 120 people paid to watch the two shows streamed over the summer.
Accent on Youth: In 2006, CVLT began "Accent On Youth", an outreach program bringing social and relationship issues to schools through live theater featuring student actors. 2-3 schools in the Chagrin School District contracted for AOY performances in the fall. The program was suspended once the theater was forced to close in mid-March.
Youth Theater: The CVLT Youth Theater offers young actors and technicians a place to learn the basics of acting and theater production. Over 100 students in grades K - 12 participated in a series of classes or workshops held from September through February, culminating in productions both on the Main Stage (February) and at the River Street theater (November) to roughly 1,000 audience members. In addition, participants in the Youth Theater program often perform in the Halloween and Christmas special events ("Ghosts, Goblins and Gobbledygook and "Gingerbread Tea", respectively). The Youth Theater program was suspended once the theater was forced to close in mid-March.
