Program areas at Central Coast Water Quality Preservation

Monitoring: Central Coast Water Quality Preservation (ccwqp) monitored surface Water Quality at 55 sites in the Central Coast area of California to assess the impacts of agriculture on Water runoff. Sites were sampled monthly for multiple constituents. Lab analysis was conducted on Water samples to determine the type of possible impairment and toxicity. Ccwqp continued to assist growers with on-farm sampling. Ccwqp also monitored groundwater Quality in over 4,000 wells located on Central Coast farms. Wells were sampled once each for nitrate, and if necessary, total dissolved solids and 123-trichloropropane. Lab analysis was performed.
Outreach, education and Water Quality reports: ccwqp held meetings or participated in meetings with farmers in the region. Meetings were held in monterey, san luis obispo, and santa barbara counties. Education materials were designed to provide farmers with information relevant to their sub-watershed. Numerous Water Quality reports and presentations were prepared and delivered to public and government agencies.
