Program areas at Center for Public Health Innovation

Newborn screening: every baby born in the u.s. is tested according to the Public Health system guidelines for certain basic criteria before leaving the birthing Center or hospital. Cphi partners with states to improve their systems for newborn screening, including algorithm changes, timeliness, education, interoperability, data reporting, and analysis. Further, cphi leads newborn screening initiatives that are specific to cystic fibrosis which include data reports, webinars, and national state collaboratives.
The Colorado sickle cell data collection (scdc) program, led by the Center for Public Health Innovation, uses data to study long-term trends in diagnosis, treatment, and healthcare access to improve the lives of people with sickle cell disease. With funding from the centers for disease control, the Colorado scdc project combines data from newborn screening, vital records, and all-payer claims data to better understand the prevalence of sickle cell disease and to identify long-term trends in diagnosis, treatment, and healthcare access for people with sickle cell disease in Colorado.
Disability employment services: this colorado-based program offers assistance to disabled individuals to find and apply for employment, as well as navigate various systems for applying and receiving qualified benefits. Cphi has previously partnered with the Colorado division of vocational rehab to increase employment for adult persons (ages 18-60) with disabilities (who receive services from a Center for independent living), increase their gross income, and reduce social isolation.
Comprehensive long-term follow-up program (colt): the goal of colt program is to create the framework and infrastructure for a state-level long-term followup (ltfu) program in Colorado and Wyoming for newborn screening. The system will provide a tool for ltfu surveillance and bi-directional communication between Public Health and clinical care.
