Program areas at Camp Rehoboth
Community centercamp works to create proud and safe communities where gender identity and sexual orientation do not matter. The center, a full-service community center, includes a large multi-purpose room, gallery space, conference rooms, a library/reading room, an hiv testing center, and the Camp Rehoboth courtyard which is open to the public. As the "heart of the community" the center provides tangible value as a gathering place for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, questioning/queer+ (lgbtq+) individuals, and all for solace, support, education, celebration, and as a hub for a wide range of activities. It is supported by an engaged board, a dedicated seven person staff, and an impressive group of volunteers who help carry out its critical programs and services. The center is the meeting place for nonprofit organizations who share Camp's mission of promoting community well being. In 2022, Camp opened its doors again to fully engage the community. Camp's community center was alive with health and wellness activities and clinics, concerts, comedy shows, theater productions, art shows, and more. It was a year of creating a "new normal" characterized by both challenges as well as opportunities for Camp to evaluate which services and programs are needed by the community and the best way to deliver those activities.
Outreach, education and creative artscamp Rehoboth provided education and outreach to the larger community, promoting positive images of lgbtq+ people, functioning as a networking and information resource, supporting local nonprofits that work toward the betterment of the community, and fostering the economic growth of the area.camp published over 60,000 copies of letters from Camp Rehoboth and distributed it at 116 community locations. The 72 to 120-page magazine served as a valuable resource for residents and people visiting the area. Camp fostered the development of nonprofit groups that support Camp's mission and helped them by donating advertising space in letters. An average of 20,000-page views per month were received on Camp's website and google analytics statistics revealed a 40 percent increase in users over the previous year. Created in 2009, the Camp Rehoboth outreach program (crop) provided 130 volunteers in 2022 to a number of community service to the food bank of Delaware, toys for tots, southern Delaware therapeutic riding, cape henlopen state park, Rehoboth beach boardwalk, and brandywine spca.the two and a half years of isolation and uncertainty ended for the most part in 2022. In person events thrived and attendance reached all time highs.the 85 member Camp chorus returned with three performances with over 1,000 people in attendance. The chorus and its ensemble served as Camp's ambassador to the community and presented four outreach performances. Camp Rehoboth theatre in its fifth year held its first ever outdoor performance in june in Camp's courtyard. Its second production of the year was viewed by sold out audiences.every month during the year, art exhibits rotated in Camp's community center. Eighty artists were featured including the Delaware division of the arts" 2022 individual artist award winners.the four day april women's fest celebrated its 21st year with sporting events, dances, local and national comedy acts and concerts, a craft expo, and keynote speakers. The event culminated with the broadwalk on the boardwalk raising funds and awareness with the Delaware breast cancer coalition.with over 2,000 in attendance, sunfestival, Camp's largest fundraiser of the year on labor day weekend, hosted over 2,000 attendees at sold out events including a comedy show, dance, auction, and a 5k run. In october, more than 92 vendors and non profit organizations participated in a day long outdoor event held in the block of baltimore avenue in front of Camp's office. Several thousand people strolled the block viewing crafts, information booths, and listening to local musical acts.camp offered programs reaching out to lgbtq+ students in middle and high schools through monthly social, a youth discussion groups, and book club. In conjunction with aarp, assistance with tax preparation was held in february and march for over 200 community members.more than 50 Rehoboth beach police cadets, Delaware natural resources and environmental control officers, and state park personnel received sensitivity training conducted by Camp staff and board members.
Health and wellnesscamp Rehoboth offered programs that supported community wellness on all levels. Camp's programs provided physical activity, social interaction, and spiritual and mental health support. Programs included yoga and tai chi classes, bereavement group, women in circle, book club, flaming knitter, and an 80 women golf league.the Camp safe and hiv/aids screening and education programs, considered an essential health service, expanded in 2022. Camp had four testing locations in sussex county reaching new populations and underserved communities and offered every day testing availability at its Rehoboth offices. Educational materials about hiv and mpox and condoms were distributed at 27 sites. Flu shots were provided in partnership with beebe healthcare. Camp and Delaware's department of public health collaborated to provide mpox vaccinations to over 200 individuals.
