Program areas at Butte Environmental Council
ReLeaf Treecovery: With support from the Treecovery program, BEC successfully planted 180 15-gallon shade trees across more than 15 parks, schools, and shared community spaces. Over 500 community volunteers and schoolchildren participated in educational sessions and hands-on tree planting events. Trees were thoughtfully placed in three counties, focusing on areas within disadvantaged and low-income communities identified as lacking shade. This initiative expanded local tree canopies, benefiting not only children and community members but also the surrounding plant and animal species that rely on healthy urban forests.
CV Infrastructure: BEC engaged, recruited, and mobilized 854 volunteers to participate in climate action projects across Butte County over the course of one year. A highlight of these efforts was the Butte County Climate Action Day, which united ten partner organizations to lead a series of climate action volunteer actives. Volunteers helped build 15 bird boxes, construct (10) 10x10 intricate, solid wood free food stands, remove invasive species in Lower Bidwell Park, and plant 15-gallon shade trees at a local shelterdemonstrating the power of community-driven environmental stewardship. This day alone brought in nearly 100 volunteers dedicated to improving the health of Butte County.
OCPSC: As a Trusted Messenger for the State of California, BEC conducted targeted outreach for statewide campaigns, reaching over 3,744 community members across Glenn, Butte, and Tehama Counties.
