Program areas at Bushlife Conservancy

No elephants were poached in Mana Pools National Park during the year. All collared elephants were protected from legal hunters when they wandered into adjacent hunting concessions. Funding was provided for the following activities conducted in Mana Pools and the surrounding Zambezi Valley of Zimbabwe: (1) a permanent ranger station was constructed at the southern boundary of Mana Pools in Chitangazuva; (2) children's conservation clubs were established in eleven schools located in the communities adjacent to the National Park; (3) a notorious elephant poacher who was on the most wanted list for many years was arrested and sentenced to 18 years in jail due to a tip received through our paid informant system; (4) three secondhand vehicles were purchased for use in anti-poaching work; (5) a used vehicle was purchased for use by the community liaison officer working along the southern boundary of the National Park; (6) operating costs were paid for deployment of Zimparks rangers; and (7) wages and operating costs were paid for a team of scouts to augment coverage by Zimparks rangers.
