Create collaboration through Community engagement, respectful dialogue, research and data to make our region a better place to live, work and play for all. To serve as a nexus point where Community stakeholders and multi-sector partners come together to identify regional needs, find innovative solutions and tackle some of the most pressing issues, including housing affordability, opportunity and prosperity, supporting impactful san diego - tijuana initiatives and a focus on community-driven programs to serve the greater good.
World design capital - in a historic multi-year effort led by local designers, innovators, and civic leaders, the san diego-tijuana region has been named the world design capital for 2024! Design forward alliance, uc san diego design lab, and the Burnham Center for Community Advancement (bcca) spearheaded the first-ever cross-border bid. This opportunity is envisioned to create lasting positive impacts in our Community and the chance to showcase our cross-border region on a global stage. Bcca was fortunate to be in a position to provide Community leadership and support, operational capacity, and seed capital towards the effort. Early research conducted by uc san diego extension indicated that the planning efforts and signature events will bring in attendees from around the world.the designation of the world design capital 2024 will bring together the thought-leaders within and outside of our region. The year-long showcase will highlight our unique culture of design and innovation and how they have improved the lives of those that call our region home. In addition to seven signature events, the activities will include more than 50 supplemental events that are community-led all around san diego county and tijuana to gain visibility, attract investment and support for their projects/initiatives.
