1. Career day: brings 400 Alumni to the school to speak to a range of classes concentrated in 18 major areas. Over 5000 students benefit from career day; as a result of this day, there are Alumni who help establish internships for students and visitation opportunities for faculty. Career day did not take place in fy22 due to post covid restrictions.2. Faculty grants: provides resources to faculty for professional development and classroom enrichment projects. These grants enable faculty to remain current in their profession, enrich the classroom experience and support innovative projects. 3. Materials testing lab: we have repurposed an old shop into a state-of-the-art materials testing lab to be used mostly by the civil engineering students. Other students using the lab will be from architecture, physics and industrial design. The room has been cleaned out of old equipment and data and electrical drops have been installed to enable the installation of new equipment. New furniture has been installed. We have now begun to add state-of-the-art testing equipment that meets university and industry standards. A universal testing machine has been added to the lab and this lab is in current use. 4. Annual engineers week: week of events centered on engineering and involves professionals and Alumni. This program is possible through our partnership with Brooklyn Tech's chapter of the national society of black engineers (nsbe).5. Con edison: support for the environmental science and engineering lab and extensive internship program. Although the selection process took place, con edison was unable to accept interns. Steps were taken to create a special fall 2022 cohort. 6. Urban land institute: provide innovative projects for economics classes to create an understanding of urban development.7. A partnership with the american society of civil engineers to bring the future world vision project to Brooklyn Tech and our seven middle schools in our middle school stem pathways consortium. The middle school stem pathways program introduces middle school students to the exciting world of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics through project-based learning and prepares them for the shsat.scholarships/awards: 9 scholarships/senior awards totaling $8,000 were dispersed to students for fye 6/30/22. The weston research scholars program (wrsp): this program is designed to provide students with a three-year opportunity to participate in the creation of research projects. The wrsp builds on Brooklyn Tech's strong stem based curriculum, the exceptional talents of Brooklyn Tech faculty and students, and the tremendous research opportunities at nyc colleges, universities and research facilities. The program is unique in its structure, incorporating an internal mentor model consisting of Brooklyn Tech teachers with research experience, student research teams, ongoing activities through the academic year and summer, and external mentors at multiple colleges, universities and research facilities. The students who participate in this program develop projects that are worthy of submission to the regeneron science talent search, regeneron science and engineering fair, the google science fair, act-so.
Alumni engagement program: this program fosters ties with its Alumni to support educational programs to include the following:homecoming: an annual event that highlights Brooklyn Tech's educational programs. It involves approximately 500 students as well as current and retired faculty. The ike heller '43 center for computer integrated manufacturing and robotics: a state-of-the art facility for student learning, professional development and career preparation. The center has undergone a number of iterations to make cutting edge technology available to both students and teachers. It provides students and faculty with a high Tech, learning environment that meets university and industry standards. In the center, students in the electrical engineering, mechatronics, and robotics classes convert computer-assisted designs into three-dimensional prototypes using 3d printers and utilize cnc machines to manufacture the parts.the leandro rizzuto internship program: this program provides students with a variety of internships (paid and unpaid). The program encompasses a link with cte work based learning program. Alumni affiliated businesses as well as the various partnership organizations work with the Foundation to develop job descriptions and candidates for the positions.
