Brooklyn bridge park (bbp), is the not-for-profit entity responsible for the planning, construction, maintenance and operation of brooklyn bridge park, an 85-acre sustainable waterfront park stretching 1.3 miles along brooklyn's east river shoreline. Throughout the year hundreds of thousands of visitors come to the park to experience a diverse array of arts, cultural, and recreational programs. Ongoing projects through the year include construction of the pier 5 uplands, which will add 145,000 square feet of new parkland, including sloping and terraced lawns, a grove with a flexible seating area, and a sound attenuating berm to reduce traffic noise; construction of pier 3 which will add 3 acres of green space to the park including a central lawn, a flexible hardscape area for recreation and programming, and an exploratory labyrinth featuring historic elements salvaged from the park; and construction of bbp's boathouse and new maintenance and operations facility scheduled to be ...
