Program areas at Brooklyn Bar Association
Due to the Covid Pandemic the Brooklyn Bar LRS commitment to Brooklyn community outreach by sponsoring the BBA Foundation Law Committees free legal informational presentations have been temporarily suspended. The BBA LRS will do live Facebook feeds of these presentations when they resume for broader outreach. The BBA LRS also participates in the annual Brooklyn Pride Festival. The festival was suspended due to the pandemic, and will resume providing information about legal services available in the community once it is re-established. The BBA LRS also maintains a speakers bureau, when requests are made from various organizations for informational legal lectures. Again, this will be reinstated once it is safe to do so. During the normal course of the daily BBA LRS business, thousands of callers are referred to available pro bono services as well as government agencies and community resources that provide legal services throughout NYC. The Brooklyn Bar Association provided 13 live streaming continuing legal education courses to the legal community and 15 prerecorded CLE courses were available during the period.
The Brooklyn Bar Association provided a variety of social/networking events with colleagues and members of the judiciary. The committees and sections provided access to leadership opportunities and career growth. The Association also continued to arbitrate fee disputes, reviewed referred grievances and produced content for our quarterly publication. The Association has around 1,200 members.
